Tackling Klesiv’s water challenges: OPORA’s collaborative initiative
Last week, during the 𝘗𝘢𝘯𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘮𝘢 𝘜𝘬𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘦: 𝘙𝘦𝘴𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘌𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘨𝘺 𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘞𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘱 in Rotterdam, OPORA researchers Mateusz M. Krawczyk, Tetiana Kozak, and Natasha Lytvynenko joined forces with experts from PosadMaxwan—Elena Chevtchenko and Nazar Gresko—and landscape designer Eduardo Marín from Felixx Landscape Architects & Planners to lead a needs prioritization session for representatives of Klesiv Municipality in Ukraine.
The session addressed critical issues facing Klesiv’s water infrastructure, including:
🔶 outdated drainage systems, which cause spring flooding,
🔶 groundwater pollution, and
🔶 seasonal shortages of clean water, particularly during summer.
The discussions underscored the urgent need to revitalize water infrastructure and adopt sustainable practices to provide reliable, clean water for the community.

This workshop is part of a larger collaborative project between OPORA Foundation, PosadMaxwan, and Felixx, focused on developing a comprehensive Water Cluster Masterplan for Klesiv Municipality. The initiative blends participatory physical and strategic workshops to ensure the masterplan is both adaptable and transferable to other municipalities across Ukraine.
More than just solving Klesiv’s water challenges, this project is about creating a scalable model for sustainable water management.
